Kathleen Collier
Design Lab Coordinator of Pre-College Programs

Kathleen Collier is the Coordinator of Pre-College Programs with the Design Lab at the College of Design. Areas of activity include developing and managing design education initiatives for middle school and high school audiences, including Design Camp and Weekend Workshops. As a member of the Design Lab, she collaborates with College of Design faculty and K-12 educators to develop lesson plans and educational programming which promote a multidisciplinary approach to design thinking.

Kathleen has a background in museum education, specializing in public programming and arts education for K-12, teen, and college audiences.

Julia Rice is the Director Design Lab at the College of Design. Areas of activity include strategic development, pre–college design programming, design educator development, research, and educational community outreach and engagement to further the programmatic mission of the Design Lab for K-12 Education and the academic mission of the NC State University College of Design. Julia originally joined the College of Design as K-12 Camps + Workshops Coordinator in 2012. Julia has directed programs such as the College of Design’s popular Design Camp, High School Summer Studios and the Weekend Workshops program at CAM Raleigh, Open Studio, and other K-12 Design Education initiatives, serving hundreds of students, families, educators and members of the community yearly. She maintains connection with thousands of high school students, parents and teachers throughout the country and the world who are interested in design education opportunities at the College of Design at NC State. In her work with the Design Lab, she engages College of Design faculty, students, design professionals, local teachers and members of the community in opportunities for collaboration, outreach and employment in programs for aspiring design students. Julia connects the College of Design to the community and aspiring students via the The Design Lab, offering programming to facilitate learning, creative challenge and design inquiry in K–12 classrooms and beyond.
