Bong Il Jin
Bio
Associate Professor Bong Il Jin, who teaches transportation and product design, came to the College of Design in 2000.
From the early 1980s to 1990, he worked for the Kia Motor Company, designing concept and production cars. He has also served as the chief designer for four years at Daewoo Motors.
Professor Jin has also designed various products at Tandem Design Associates, a design consulting agency.
Since 1997, Professor Jin has won many domestic and international design competitions consecutively with his students such as the Hyundai Motors Design Competition, LG International Design Competition, Motor Trend Design Competition, Lexmark Printer Competition, MDRA International Boat Competition, Coram Design Competition, Traffic Safety Competition, Fresh Wood Design Competition, Oak Design Competition, Quick Silver International Innovative Design Competition, and the One Good Chair Design Competition.
Professor Jin was selected as the ‘Most Admired ID Instructor in the US’ by Design Intelligence in 2006. In 2010, his students claimed four of the top five prizes in the New York Auto Show traffic safety design competition.
He has taught ideation courses, Advanced ID 400 for seniors, and ID 500 for graduate students since 2000.
