Valeria López Torres, Ph.D.

Bio
Dr. Valeria López Torres specializes in Human-AI Interaction and UX/UI.
Her research agenda is focused on advanced Human-AI Interaction, exploring the evolving role of technology in society and the ways in which design mediates our experiences with it. Her most recent work leverages Explainable AI (XAI) principles to design interfaces that translate complex AI decision-making into clear explanations and actionable insights, promoting transparency and trust calibration in AI systems. Other work in this area includes research on artificial companionship, AI social chatbots, and the critical role of authenticity in human-AI interactions.
Dr. López Torres also engages in research involving More-than-Human Design, and developed an innovative curriculum that integrates more-than-human experiences and systems thinking into foundational design studios. This work advocates for a systemic approach to design and situates the designer’s role within a context of global interconnectedness and ecological responsibility.
Additionally, Dr. López Torres is actively engaged in significant curriculum development efforts, spearheading initiatives to integrate essential AI skills and competencies in design education.
