Bio
Wendy Miller, FASLA, is a registered landscape architect focusing on urban design and transportation. Miller’s career started in the public sector working in local government developing environmental ordinances and promoting aesthetic improvements through design, project development, and public awareness. Her transition to transportation planning and policy opened a new avenue of work. For over a decade, she was a member of the North Carolina Association of MPOs Executive Committee, advocating with federal and State partners for healthier transportation systems. Miller believes that having landscape architects involved in shaping transportation corridors – our most ubiquitous public space – is critical.
Starting a second career as principal of her consulting firm, Wendy Miller Landscape Architecture, she provides expertise in corridor design solutions, public involvement, and planning strategies to prepare communities for new and disruptive transportation technologies on the horizon.
Active in ASLA since graduate school, Miller treasures the lifelong friendships she has formed serving the North Carolina Chapter in several leadership roles including Chapter President. She was recognized with the NCASLA President’s Award in 2015. Miller has served national ASLA as chair of the Public Practice Advisory Committee and the Landscape Architecture and Transportation Professional Practice Network and as Vice President for Professional Practice. Miller currently holds the position of ASLA President-Elect and looks forward to her induction as President of ASLA at the 2019 conference.
Miller has been privileged to serve on the Transportation Research Board Committee on Landscape and Environmental Design for three terms where she collaborates on research needs for landscape architects in transportation practice and was selected for the National Academy of Sciences NCHRP Panel on Visual Impact Assessments.
Miller received her BA with Distinction from the University of Virginia in 1977, and graduated with an MLA from North Carolina State University in 1986. She was a founding member of the NCSU Landscape Architecture Alumni Advisory Board serving as chair from 2001-2003 and joined the NCSU College of Design Leadership Council in 2019.
