Bio

Emily Blackwell Hsiao graduated from NC State’s College of Design with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2008. As a licensed landscape architect, her work focuses on parks, greenways, campus design, urban design, and land planning. She is a visionary leader in landscape architecture whose profound expertise in client development, project management, partnership cultivation, and team leadership has set her apart as an influential force in the industry.

Emily is deeply committed to making a lasting impact on future landscape architect professionals through leadership, advocacy, and service. She actively engages in initiatives that enhance public spaces, support local organizations, and foster meaningful connections within the community. Whether through her involvement in civic programs, mentoring future leaders, or championing initiatives that address community needs, Emily’s dedication to service is evident in her passion for community enrichment and mentorship:

• Junior League of Charlotte (Since 2014): Led the organization’s partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, ensuring local schoolchildren had access to food over weekends.
• North Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (NCASLA): Member since 2007; served in leadership roles since 2013, including Chapter President, launching the first Southeast Regional ASLA conference, and serving on multiple national committees and awards juries.
• Leadership Charlotte – Spring 2024 Encounter Program: Participated in a prestigious civic leadership initiative.
• LeadHERship Workshop: Recurring speaker and planning committee member, supporting the elevation of women in parks and recreation leadership roles.

Emily lives near uptown Charlotte with her husband Thomas, 10-year-old stepson Harrison, and 18-month baby girl, Charlize.
