Bio

Maryam Badiei is a Ph.D. student in Design at NC State University. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Tehran, where she was awarded the Bright Scholarship. Her research focuses on sustainable architecture, digital fabrication, and material innovation, particularly in ceramic façade systems and clay 3D printing.

She is a licensed architect in her home country and has extensive professional experience working with Building Information Modeling (BIM) on a wide range of projects, including historical restorations, official buildings, residential complexes, commercial centers, and healthcare facilities. She has been involved in all stages of practice—from schematic design to on-site construction supervision. Maryam’s work explores the intersection of vernacular traditions and computational design, emphasizing how cultural identity and material experimentation can shape innovative and sustainable design practices.
