Durham EHC Proposal

Site: Plum Street, Durham, NC

This is a proposed neighborhood design in a wooded urban zone [RU-5(2)] with suburban feel. The 15,000 square foot lot is heavily restricted by a storm drainage easement. Use of small lot with zero lot line in the new Expanding Housing Choices language of Durham’s Unified Development Ordinance provides the opportunity for seven single family homes on this challenging site. Each home site also supports an Accessory Dwelling Unit. The houses are designed to be appropriately scaled and comfortable in the context of the site. Special considerations for the design include generous outdoor living space, private backyards, and covered balconies.
