Bachelor of Graphic & Experience Design

Sequenced core studios supported by typography and image-making courses progressively introduce and develop the necessary skills, processes, and sensitivities across a range of media. Through project-based assignments, students acquire strong formal and conceptualization skills. They learn and practice graphic design strategies, such as mapping and diagramming, to understand design problems, audiences, contexts, and visualization techniques, including ideation and iteration, to explore and refine design possibilities and determine appropriateness.

Master of Graphic & Experience Design

Varied topics prompt students to explore contemporary design concerns: the cultural contexts of design, the influence and experiences of end users, the social and technological environments within which designed artifacts operate. Subtopics within these broad concerns allow faculty and students the opportunity to frame, research, and respond to current and future design challenges.

Bachelor of Graphic & Experience Design Courses and Curriculum

For three consecutive semesters in the sophomore and junior years, students take one core studio (6 credits) plus a co-requisite typography studio (3 credits). This series of scaffolded courses prepares students for upper-level advanced studios in the areas of branding, interaction, and service design, as well as other systems-based design areas.

Master of Graphic & Experience Design Courses and Curriculum

The core curriculum consists of a 9-credit studio and a 3-credit seminar — either Design Methods, Design Frameworks, or Final Project Research — in each of the first three semesters of study. Students are encouraged to augment their study during this time with 400 or 500 level design coursework that enhances skills and/or investigates topics of interest.
