Bio
Kris is an educator and artisan with over 20 years experience working in global entertainment. Currently, he serves as Director of the Stage Properties concentration at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Kris has worked with some of the top theater and entertainment organizations across the industry including Santa Fe Opera, Shakespeare Santa Cruz and National Black Theater Festival, as well as on the national tours of “Memphis the Musical” and Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” He has also collaborated extensively with award-winning visual artist Elizabeth Alexander including an installation at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
Research Interest
Kris is interested in exploring the semiotic and cultural roles that props play in theatrical productions. His goal is to disrupt the conventional view of theatrical production and explore elements of scenic design as tools for social change.
