John is currently the Director of Scene Design at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, as well as an accomplished scenic designer, architect, and watercolor artist. John has a diverse range of design and teaching experience related to the performing and visual arts. In scenic design, John has explored the creative potential of original plays and boldly re-imagined historical works for internationally recognized opera and theater companies. As a partner at Theater Projects Consultants, John collaborated with renowned architects such as Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas, and Renzo Piano to create world-class performing arts facilities.
Research Interests:
John is interested in exploring the narrative capacity of built environments and the role that counter-narratives can play as a design strategy for examining alternatives to long held societal views.
