Collaborative Sponsored Studios

Collaborative Research and Design Projects are an integral element for the Department of Graphic Design and Industrial Design. Faculty and students are exposed to unique client-facing opportunities that challenge them to develop real-world solutions to actual projects. Some of these studios are interdisciplinary and include designers, engineers, developers, and business professionals that collaborate on practical and meaningful research + design projects in the studios.

NC Museum of Natural Sciences: Universal Design Welcomes Everyone

NC State Graphic Design classes collaborated to bring innovative solutions in universal design to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences for patrons with Autism.

SAS/Duke Eye Center: Accessibility in Design

Graphic Design students in GD 417 partnered with SAS and the Duke Eye Center to develop an accessible software for product users with visual impairments.

Sealed Air: Rethinking the Box

Graphic Designs students in the GD 400 studio (Advanced Graphic Design Studio) were challenged to develop customizable secondary packaging through a collaborative partnership with Sealed Air.

At this year’s Design It Forward Gala, held at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design, students from the College of Design, members of the IBM Design team in RTP and the Institute for Nonprofits at NC State, and several nonprofit organizations worked together for a semester.
