Architecture Students Win 2019 Studio Prize
A graduate design studio at the School of Architecture has been awarded the prestigious Studio Prize by ARCHITECT Magazine. Professors Thomas Barrie, DPACSA and David Hill, FAIA worked with eleven graduate students who envisioned micro house villages for homeless and disabled veterans in North Carolina. The project was funded by the North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness.
This national award for the School of Architecture recognizes the excellence of the School of Architecture’s community-engaged approach to teaching. Students worked closely with the North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness to create innovative design solutions for veterans. The Studio Prize “celebrates the most innovative academic studios in North America.” Only five projects received awards this year, and were published in the September issue of ARCHITECT Magazine, the publication of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
The project is also a finalist in the AIA Film Challenge AIA Film Challenge. The full results of the project can be found at the School of Architecture’s Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities website.
