2020-21 University Faculty Scholars Named
NC State’s 2020-21 class of University Faculty Scholars was announced today. These 21 early- and mid-career faculty receive this designation in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements and contributions to NC State through their teaching, scholarship and service to the university and beyond.
Since the program’s inception in 2012, 191 faculty have been named University Faculty Scholars. These faculty members carry the title for the duration of their faculty appointment at NC State and receive an increase to their base salary.
Each college may submit nominations for assistant professors appointed for a second term, associate professors and professors within the first three years of their appointment. Senior faculty then review nominations, evaluating them on research and scholarship productivity, excellence in teaching and mentoring, and leadership in extension, professional societies and public service initiatives.
This year’s class of University Faculty Scholars includes:
- Milad Abolhasani, assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering
- Maria Avramova, associate professor of nuclear engineering
- Michael Bereman, associate professor of biological sciences
- Kathryn Boys, associate professor of agricultural and resource economics
- Caren Cooper, associate professor of forestry and environmental resources
- Jason Coupet, associate professor of public and international affairs
- Huiling Ding, professor of English
- Wei Gao, associate professor of textile engineering, chemistry and science
- Liara Gonzalez, assistant professor of clinical sciences
- Ismail Guvenc, professor of electrical and computer engineering
- Lindsey Haynes-Maslow, associate professor of agricultural and human sciences
- Elan Hope, associate professor of psychology
- Cathrine Hoyo, professor of biological sciences
- Michael Kudenov, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering
- Deborah Littlejohn, associate professor of graphic design and industrial design
- Stefano Menegatti, assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering
- Kelly Lynn Mulvey, associate professor of psychology
- Natalie Nelson, assistant professor of biological and agricultural engineering
- Lokendra Pal, associate professor of forest biomaterials
- Anna Stepanova, associate professor of plant and microbial biology
- Temple Walkowiak, associate professor of teacher education and learning sciences
