House In A Garden project featured on America ByDesign

Benjamin Monette, assistant professor of practice in landscape architecture and founder of Mud, Landscape Architects, talks about his award-winning project, House In A Garden, as part of CBS’s America ByDesign. Alongside Atelier Mey Architects, Minimal Impact Engineering and Littoral Urbanism Lab, he talks about the project’s net-zero carbon landscape surrounding the first mass-timber building in Miami-Dade County.
Monette’s firm, Mud, is an award-winning professional practice focused on site-scale urban design efforts as well as city-scale green infrastructure planning.
The project is a single-story house and grounds in Miami’s historic Coconut Grove neighborhood that embraces neighboring structures, the local ecology and cultural approaches to community. In collaboration with Miami-based architects Atelier Mey, the project has won the NCASLA Award of Merit and was featured in the July 2024 issue of Architectural Record. In addition, it has won three awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA): the 2022 Award of Excellence Design Detail(AIA Miami), the 2023 Honor Award of Excellence in Sustainability (AIA Florida) and the 2023 Honor Award of Excellence in Residential Architecture (AIA Miami).
