Awards of Excellence Luncheon

The College of Design held their annual Awards of Excellence Luncheon to recognize the achievements of our College family. The NC State University Awards for Excellence is the most prestigious honor bestowed upon non-faculty employees. The College selects one SHRA and one EHRA employee to be recognized as Awards for Excellence recipients. In addition to receiving eight hours of paid time off and a $250 check from the College, recipients are also honored at the NC State University Awards for Excellence ceremony, where five individuals receive special distinction as recipients of the NC State University Awards for Excellence.

The Award Categories are: Customer Service, Efficiency & Innovation, Heroism, Human Relations, Outstanding State Government Service, Public Service and Spirit of NC

The College of Design employees were nominated in the areas of Customer Service and Efficiency & Innovation.

Customer Service: This category recognizes a candidate who provides exceptional service and creates a positive customer experience, which adds value and exceeds customer expectations.

Efficiency and Innovation: This category recognizes a candidate who has made a significant contribution in improving the effectiveness of a service or program resulting in new or improved innovations, efficiencies, or cost ‐savings.

Recipients are:

Scott Lutz – SHRA Winner

Scott Started at NCSU on June 11, 2012. He serves as a Technology Support Analyst for the College of Design.

Noted in his nomination: Scott Lutz provides truly exceptional customer service to all users he comes in contact with. His outgoing and friendly personality draws people to him and it is why he is so approachable. He immediately stops whatever he is doing when someone approaches him, no matter who it is. He treats all people with the utmost respects, no matter what their position might be. Faculty, staff, students and administrators consistently report their appreciation of Scott’s service and support.

Felicia Womack – EHRA Winner

Felicia joined NCSU on November 8, 2010, in the Contracts and Grants Office as an Accountant. She came to the College of Design in December of 2013 as the Director of the Budget Office. As of January 28, 2016, Felicia was promoted to the Assistant Dean for Administration.

Noted in her nomination: Felicia has provided much-needed consistency and stability for the Budget Office. I believe this is due to her leadership, strong work ethic, and her ability to reconcile the needs of the College of Design with the demands from the University.

The five faculty recipients of the NC State University Awards for Excellence receive an additional eight hours of paid time off, a check for $250, and an engraved award plaque. The NC State University Awards for Excellence recipients are also submitted for consideration for the Governor’s Awards for Excellence, which is the highest honor awarded to a State employee.

Research Leadership Academy + Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award – Sharon Joines, PhD, Associate Professor of Industrial Design and Graduate Program Director of ID

Graduate School Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award in the area of Humanities and Design* – Sharon Joines, PhD, Associate Professor of Industrial Design and Graduate Program Director of ID

Research Leadership Academy + Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award*– Wayne Place, PhD, Professor of Architecture

*Both Sharon Joines and Wayne Place’s awards are the first in the history of the College.
