The Art of Native Places: Frank Harmon Exhibit Opens at Foundation

September 30, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

On Sunday, September 30, from 2-4 p.m. Foundation, the popular underground night spot on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, will open a special Fall 2018 exhibition of hand-drawn sketches and brief essays from the new book Native Places: Drawing as a Way to See by renowned architect and College of Design professor Frank Harmon, FAIA.

During the opening reception this Sunday, Harmon will discuss the genesis of the book and his desire to “transform the way we see” everyday objects, places, and nature. He will also discuss his belief that sketching is not an obsolete art but, rather, “an opportunity to develop a natural grace in the way we view the world and take part in it.” Following his gallery talk, Harmon will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase from a bookseller with Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh.

FOUNDATION hopes design students will attend. Anyone under 21 will have to leave, however, when the bar begins selling alcoholic beverages at 4 p.m.

After the opening reception, the exhibition of sketches will remain in FOUNDATION through December.
