Invisible Worlds: Leading Strand Exhibit Opening

May 18, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Leading Strand - Invisible Worlds

Invisible Worlds is an illuminating science-based art exhibit in downtown Raleigh that will bring unseen worlds into focus as NC State scientists and designers unveil the results of their collaboration with the Leading Strand. Six groups of collaborators from the College of Sciences and the College of Design teamed up to create stunning visual and interactive designs to help the public:

  • Better understand cancer therapy
  • Experience the mysteries of dark matter
  • Step into the furry shoes of a little-known aye-aye lemur
  • Manipulate the speed of ultrafast phenomena
  • Feel the intricate networks of soft condensed matter
  • Observe the binding between antibiotics and pathogens

The event, which is free and open to the public (registration is encouraged), will also give attendees a sneak peek at the Transfer Co. Food Hall, a new market and gathering place in downtown Raleigh’s historic Olde East Neighborhood that doesn’t officially open until June 1 (the exhibit will be on display during the month of June on days when the food hall is open). Exhibit opening attendees can enjoy food and drink as they navigate the space.

The Leading Strand is an organization that brings scientists and designers together to translate scientific research in rigorous and visually compelling ways. It was founded by scientist-turned-designer Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, a visiting faculty member at NC State during the spring semester who worked each of the teams to co-create the designs on display at the exhibit.
