Kincaid was presented with the award on November 1, 2018, at the annual Evening of the Stars Gala. Each year, this event pays tribute to an alumnus from each NC State college for his or her career success and outstanding support of the University. Kincaid is one of four women in this elite group of College of Design alumni.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15511\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15511\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/design.ncsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Distinguished-Alumni-of-NC-State-2018-e1544014449751.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15511\" src=\"https:\/\/design.ncsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Distinguished-Alumni-of-NC-State-2018-e1544014449751.jpg\" alt=\"Distinguished Alumni of NC State 2018\" width=\"470\" height=\"339\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15511\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Distinguished Alumni from across NC State University at the annual Evening of the Stars Gala, which honors and recognizes these leaders.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over the years, Kincaid has worked for Ziff Davis, Conde Nast, Yahoo!, The Washington Post, and Microsoft. She has put her design skills to work building an accomplished career in digital media, specifically in business and product development, content strategy, programming, ecommerce, and usability. In addition to her master\u2019s degree in product design, Kincaid also has a background in communications and executive coaching. She now builds teams that create engaging and user-centric products.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting back on her time at the College, Kincaid says that \u201cone of the best moments I had was an interdisciplinary studio\u2026 it was with landscape architects, industrial designers, and graphic designers.\u201d The studio gave Kincaid the opportunity to work on an interdisciplinary collaborative team, and got her hooked on the experience. She says, \u201cI was like, \u2018I like this,\u2019 and that\u2019s just what it\u2019s been from that moment on.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m honored. I\u2019m surprised. The best thing that\u2019s come out of it is to be able to reconnect here with the College of Design.\u201d\u2014Kathleen Kincaid<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Just as she enjoys working on interdisciplinary teams, Kincaid has a natural desire to weave together various skills and interests. \u201cI am a continuous learner,\u201d she says. \u201cI just love it.\u201d Kincaid continues to take classes in topics of interest such as woodworking and sewing.\u201d The constant push to learn more, Kincaid says, \u201cit\u2019s my core\u2026 just being interested in learning a little bit more. I don\u2019t need to be the expert, but I just want to dig a little deeper and to be exposed to it.\u201d This natural curiosity and willingness to learn is a perfect fit with Kincaid\u2019s tech-driven industry\u2014\u201dIt changes a lot.
