Elgin was a Muschenheim Fellow at the University of Michigan and has taught at the University of Illinois, Chicago.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Andrew\u2019s extensive career includes designing structural components for the Arleigh Burke Class Navy Destroyer vessel; the Port Authority \u2013 working on projects in Tower One of the World Trade Center, Newark Airport, and the Air Train for JFK airport; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where he served as the Chief Architect; and the City University of New York, where he was responsible for building their first new community college in 40 years.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

At NC State University she explored themes of justice in the built environment, racial inequality, tectonics of design, and public interest architecture, which led her to question how identity and equity are negotiated in cities shaped by colonial and postcolonial histories.

Purvij Munshi is a design professional from India with a Master\u2019s degree in Architecture from NC State University, driven by a passion for community-based design and experiential architecture. Believing in the transformative power of architecture as a force for social justice, his travel fellowship research, \u201cEmpowering Marginalized Communities in Africa\u201d, took him across multiple African countries to study the socio-economic and environmental challenges confronting underserved populations.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Yutaka Sho\u2019s is a Principal and Co-Founder of GA Collaborative. Her research focuses on the roles of architecture and planning in development, humanitarian and post-calamity contexts. Yutaka has taught architectural design studios and theory at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology in Rwanda, and is an Associate Professor of Architecture at Syracuse University.

Leighton is a GA Collaborative Principal and Co-Founder. His research and interests focus on affects and material technologies within design culture for environmental responsibility, and socially conscious design practices. Leighton Beaman is currently an Associate Professor of Practice at Cornell University. He has been named a MacDowell Fellow, an American Institute of Architects Emerging Practitioner, and a University of Virginia Teaching Fellow in Architecture.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

For the past three decades, Roy has led the firm to complete public projects of varying scales and types and to achieve
significant design recognition. Roy is a design and critical thought leader, whether he is participating in an inner-city neighborhood meeting, serving on student reviews across the country, sharing his perspective in lectures and publications, or inspiring an individual in conversation. British architect of Iraqi and Lebanese descent, Salma Samar Damluji graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture and The Royal College of Art London. She worked with Egyptian Architect Hassan Fathy (1975-1976) and (1983 to1984). In 2008, she established with colleagues in Yemen the Daw\u2018an Mud Brick Architecture Foundation in Mukalla, Hadramut and has been working there on earth construction and rehabilitation projects. Damluji has carried out extensive field work and research on architecture in the Arab region.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

As Senior Partner at Safdie Architects, Jaron Lubin leads the design of some of the firm\u2019s most ambitious urban-scale projects. Over his career, Jaron has produced an extensive portfolio of technically rigorous competition entries, conceptual designs and realized projects, spanning an array of geographic contexts, scales and typologies. This work includes some of Safdie Architect\u2019s most recognized achievements, including the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark, which redefined the skyscraper typology, and Jewel Changi Airport, an immersive civic and aviation experience that has set new standards for air transportation centers worldwide.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Donghwan Moon, AIA, is an architect, urbanist, and educator. His multidisciplinary design practice MMKPLUS focuses on creating contextual, timeless, and socially responsible places through extensive research on architecture, landscape, and infrastructure. He has worked on various projects globally, including city master plans, mixed-use developments, cultural buildings, and public parks. MMKPLUS won multiple awards, including the Public Architecture Award of Korea, the Korean Architecture Award, and the IFLA Landscape Architecture Award. His work and research have also been widely recognized through publications and exhibitions, including Architectural Record, Archdaily, and the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

This is the AIA Triangle Design Award Jury Chair Lecture.

Aziza was born and raised in Fez, Morocco. She is trained both as a structural engineer and as an architect, with 14 years working experience in Morocco, France and the USA. Aziza graduated Cum Laude from Columbia University and with Distinction from Harvard Graduate School of Design. Prior to creating ACP, Aziza co-founded and ran Bureau E.A.S.T. with partner Takako Tajima. Her work with here previous office with partner Takako Tajima, Bureau E.A.S.T, and with Aziza Chaouni Projects has won several top design Awards and Recognitions including the Holcim Gold Award for Sustainable Construction in 2009, and has been published and exhibited widely. Aziza is also an Associate Professor at the Daniels School of Architecture Landscape and Design, where she leads the Designing Ecological Tourism lab. She is a member of the scientific committee of ICOMOS isc20c.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Alexandra Ar\u00e8nes is a graduate architect (2009) and holds a PhD in Architecture (University of Manchester, 2022). Her research and practice focus on understanding and representing landscapes in the context of climate change, at S.O.C (Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d’Objets cartographiques) and Sha\u0101, studio for architecture and urbanism. She is co-author of Terra Forma, a book of speculative maps published by MIT. Her most recent project, entitled “Gaiagraphie” (https:\/\/gaiagraphie.com), is the result of a collaboration with earth scientists from the Critical Zone.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Joan Busquets is the Martin Bucksbaum Professor in Practice of Urban Planning and Design at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. A world-renowned urban planner, urban designer, and architect, Busquets served as Head of Urban Planning for the Barcelona City Council during the formative years, from 1983 to 1989, and in the preparations for the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, including the New Downtowns program for the City and the improvement process for existing neighborhoods.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Boonserm Premthada<\/h3>\n \n\n \n\t \t

Boonserm Premthada and his award-winning practice, Bangkok Project Studio, move away from placing humans at the center. He argues that architecture is the physical creation of an atmosphere, serving to heighten our awareness of our natural surroundings. In doing so, we can learn how to be humane and treat humans, nature, and animals as all equal in a space. This sensitivity is visible in all his projects, for which he credits 50% of his design as being left to nature, allowing unexpected moments of interaction between humans and animals; these works invite their visitors to slow down and connect with nature.
Beyond the realms of theory and practice, Premthada’s work also carries a strong socio-economic, cultural, and environmental agenda, as many of his projects have social programs that aim to improve the lives of the underprivileged and the ecosystem.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Chandra Robinson is a principal at Lever Architecture, a firm founded in Portland, Oregon by Thomas Robinson and Pamela Kislak in 2009. Now based in both Portland and LA, the practice currently numbers over 55 employees. Lever Architects operates at the intersection of research and design, developing and testing next-generation building assemblies and sustainable tools while foregrounding human experience and equity. Recognized for innovation in timber construction by Fast Company in 2021 and 2022, the firm won Architectural Record\u2019s Vanguard Award in 2017 and was named an Emerging Voice by The Architectural League of New York in 2017.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Mauricio Rocha founded his practice in Mexico City in 1991, and was shortlisted for the AR Emerging awards in 2009 for the School of Plastic Arts in Oaxaca. Since then, Rocha has designed buildings around Mexico, many in collaboration with the architect Gabriela Carrillo, who was a partner at the practice between 2012 and 2019.\u00a0Projects include the Centro de Invidentes y D\u00e9biles Visuales (Centre for the Blind and Visually Impaired) in 2001 \u2013 and the renovation of a library on the site in with Carrillo in 2015 \u2013 the P\u00e1tzcuaro Criminal Courts from 2015, a brick studio for Rocha\u2019s mother in 2016, and most recently the extension of the Museo Anahuacalli in Mexico City.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

MacMillan Family Lecture<\/h3>\n \n\n \n\t \t

Gay is the author of four books of poetry: Against Which<\/em>; Bringing the Shovel Down<\/em>; Be Holding<\/em>; and Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude<\/em>, winner of the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award and the 2016 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. His new poem, Be Holding, was released from the University of Pittsburgh Press in September 2020. His collection of essays, The Book of Delights, was released by Algonquin Books in 2019.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Rahul Mehrotra<\/h3>\n \n\n \n\t \t

Rahul\u00a0Mehrotra is an architect, urbanist and educator who is the founding\u00a0principal of RMA Architects and is a professor of Urban Design and Planning at the Department of Urban Planning and Design at Harvard University\u2019s Graduate School of Design. Mehrotra has designed projects that range from recycling urban land and master planning in Mumbai to the design of art spaces, boutiques, weekend houses, factories, social institutes and office buildings across India \u2013 thereby engaging diverse issues, multiple constituencies and varying scales: from interior design and architecture to urban design, conservation and planning.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Bryant comes to Detroit from Houston, where he served as business development and project manager for Moody Nolan. His career has centered around the development and social empowerment of underserved communities. He is a nationally recognized thought leader in civic engagement, urban planning and community-led design. With more than 25 years of experience, he has directed efforts across the country, from neighborhood plans to full-scale strategic planning activities.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Shannon’s practice as an architect and researcher is focused on health, equity, and social justice in the\u00a0design of the built environment, exemplified by her work on the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers\u00a0at the University of Virginia (with H\u04e7weler + Yoon Architecture, current) and the University of\u00a0Global Health Equity in Butaro, Rwanda (with Shepley Bulfinch, 2016-2018). Prior to joining\u00a0HYA, Caroline worked at Shepley Bulfinch, +D Studio (Rio de Janeiro), nbbj, and MASS Design\u00a0Group.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Emmanuel Pratt is an urban designer creating a model of resident-driven community development in neighborhoods that have suffered the effects of long-term disinvestment. Pratt is co-founder and executive director of the Sweet Water Foundation (SWF), a nonprofit organization based on Chicago\u2019s South Side that engages local residents in the cultivation and regeneration of social, environmental, and economic resources in their neighborhoods.<\/p>\n\t \t \n

Tatiana Bilbao began her eponymous studio in 2004 with the aim of integrating social values, collaboration and sensitive design approaches to architectural work. Prior to founding her firm, Bilbao was an advisor in the Ministry of Development and Housing of the Government of the Federal District of Mexico City, during this period she was part of the General Development Directorate of the Advisory Council for Urban Development in the city.<\/p>\n\t \t \n
