2019 Lulu eGames Winners

On Thursday, April 3, entrepreneurship supporters gathered in Stewart Theatre to the Lulu eGames LIVE, NC State’s annual startup competition. The winning teams were selected based on combined scores from a business plan and in-person pitch. We’re excited to recognize these teams for all their hard work!

NEW VENTURE

1st, $10,000: OpenGait Prosthetics | OpenGait has developed a complete prosthetic kit for above-knee (AK) amputees that will unlock access to mobility and independence to so many in need.

2nd, $7,000: Reborn Clothing Co. | Reborn transforms surplus textile waste and branded apparel into higher-value products.

3rd, $5,000: Green Bleach | Green Bleach is developing a unique new disinfectant that is both fully effective against the most robust pathogens and is non-toxic for humans.

Fan Favorite Video Award, $500: Chirp | Chirp is an IoT-enabled Smart Home device that leverages a combination of sensors guided by a proprietary algorithm to monitor the stove and immediately address threats to help reduce emergency response times by an estimated 50%. Watch the video.

DESIGN AND PROTOTYPE

The Design & Prototype category is for student ventures that have an innovative product concept design or prototype.

1st, $5,000: Chirp | Chirp is an IoT-enabled Smart Home device that leverages a combination of sensors guided by a proprietary algorithm to monitor the stove and immediately address threats to help reduce emergency response times by an estimated 50%.

2nd, $3,000: OpenGait Prosthetics | OpenGait has developed a complete prosthetic kit for above-knee (AK) amputees that will unlock access to mobility and independence to so many in need.

3rd, $2,000: eyeBot | eyeBot is a device that creates a cheaper, faster, and more convenient eye examination for people.

SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

The Social and Environmental Impact category is for student ventures using the power of business to solve social and environmental issues. It is held in partnership with the Poole College of Management Business Sustainability Collaborative.

1st, $5,000: OpenGait Prosthetics | OpenGait has developed a complete prosthetic kit for above-knee (AK) amputees that will unlock access to mobility and independence to so many in need.

2nd, $3,000: Portal Technologies | Portal is a countertop device that allows brands to access new audiences through the power of automated retail.

3rd, $2,000: Vital Guide | Vital Guide allows hospital staff a solution to provide improved medical care and allows improved patient management to emergency waiting room patients.

Fan Favorite Video Award, $500: 321 Coffee | 321 Coffee is a growing nonprofit coffee shop staffed by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Watch the video.

BUILT ON CLOUD

The Built on Cloud category is for student ventures utilizing one or more of IBM’s cloud services. The category is held in partnership with IBM.

1st, $5,000: Flux Conversions | Flux is developing a kit that will convert any automatic transmission powertrain to a hybrid-electric powertrain.

2nd, $3,000: eyeBot | eyeBot is a device that creates a cheaper, faster, and more convenient eye examination for people.

3rd, $2,000: Vital Guide | Vital Guide allows hospital staff a solution to provide improved medical care and allows improved patient management to emergency waiting room patients.

ARTS VENTURE

The Arts Venture category is for arts-based student ventures or student ventures benefitting the arts community. The NC State Arts Entrepreneurship program is a partner for the category.

1st, $5,000: iScribble | iScribble is an interactive, drawing based web-application that allows individuals from all over the world to come together and collaborate on a digital canvas, allowing artists to communicate as a team while individually honing their design skills in a manner unlike other design applications on the market.

2nd, $3,000: Wrapped | WRAPPED is an all-inclusive headwrap company that provides ready-to-wear and custom wraps that empower customers through self-expression, while also challenging social stigmas.

3rd, $2,000: STEAM-E NC | Through a scholarship-based summer camp immersion, STEAM-E NC seeks to bridge the gap between the 25,000 students in rural Appalachia who do not have equal access to STEM, arts and entrepreneurship education.

DAUGHERTY ENDOWMENT

The Daugherty Endowment category is for ventures that have licensed NC State technology in the past three years. The category is made possible by the Daugherty Entrepreneurialism Endowment in partnership with the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science.

1st, $25,000: NIRSleep | NIRSleep is a more accurate and native method to measure sleep to enable better care and outcomes.

2nd, $15,000: Synoxa Sciences | Synoxa Sciences is providing novel, effective antibiotic treatments for patients
suffering from serious multi-drug resistant bacterial infections.

3rd, $10,000: INDTI | INDTI is developing new nondestructive testing (NDT) technology to estimate the depth of embedded pile foundations to help the state departments of transportation ensure the safety of aging bridge infrastructure.
