Nikki Evans

Nikki serves as the departmental administrator for Architecture and Landscape Architecture. She supports those departments by assisting with course scheduling, arranging meetings for the department heads, financial/budget administration, curricula development and process management. Alisha also serves as the departmental point of contact and works closely with students, faculty, administration, staff, and guests.

Dean Marvin Malecha, FAIA, DPACSA

Marvin J. Malecha, FAIA, arrived at the College of Design in 1994 to accept the position of Dean of the College of Design. For 12 years prior, he was dean of the College of Environmental Design at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Malecha earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University. He was recognized as the 1980 Rotch Traveling Scholar.

Carla Abramczyk

Carla Abramczyk heads donor and alumni relations as the Executive Director of Development. She came to the College of Design in May 2002 from the NC State Engineering Foundation where she served for more than two years as development director for the Chemical Engineering Department. Abramczyk has held several advancement positions at NC State University over the past seven years.

Prior to moving to Raleigh from Cleveland, Ohio, Abramczyk’s background was in public relations and event planning. She received her BA in speech communication from Penn State University.

Jean Marie Livaudais

Jean Marie Livaudais manages the college’s Office of External Relations, including alumni and professional relations, communications and marketing, continuing education, board management, and special events. Since 2000, Jean Marie has served the College of Design in many external relations capacities. She is the founding director of the annual urban design conference, serves as the College’s liaison to design professional associations and firms, has managed numerous special events, and previously served as the college’s director of advancement.

Art Rice, FCELA

Professor Rice received a BLA degree from the University of Oregon in 1973. After practicing professionally in California he attended the Harvard Graduate School of Design where he received a Master of Landscape Architecture with Distinction in 1978. At graduation he also received the Charles Elliot Traveling Fellowship.

Dr. Amanda Williams

Amanda provides career assistance to all students in the College of Design including resume reviews, advice on preparing for interviews and information about the job/internship search process. She also works with students and faculty on issues related to academic advising. Prior to joining the College of Design in November 2010, Amanda worked in Career Services at UNC Chapel Hill and Boston College. She has worked in a number of other student services capacities including academic advising, orientation and leadership development.

Dr. Celen Pasalar

Dr. Celen Pasalar’s expertise involves organizing and promoting numerous design and planning projects for the benefit of communities primarily throughout North Carolina. Pasalar received her undergraduate degree in architecture (1997) from Middle East Technical University in Turkey and her master’s degree in urban design (1999) from the same university. She has received her doctorate degree from the College of Design, NC State University with a focus on Community and Environmental Design in 2004.
